Freedom in the 50 States:
An Index of Personal and Economic Freedom:
by Jason Sorens & William Ruger
June 7, 2011
At the above website link you can click on any of the below states for a brief synopsis of freedom ratings for the state. Below is their “freedom” order, from best to worse:
STATE FREEDOM RANKINGS:
1. New Hampshire
2. South Dakota
10. North Dakota
18. North Carolina
26. South Carolina
36. West Virginia
37. New Mexico
45. Rhode Island
49. New Jersey
50. New York
From the authors of the study:
This study comprehensively ranks the American states on their public policies that affect individual freedoms in the economic, social, and personal spheres. It updates, expands, and improves upon our inaugural 2009 Freedom in the 50 States study. For this new edition, we have added more policy variables (such as bans on trans fats and the audio recording of police, Massachusetts’s individual health-insurance mandate, and mandated family leave), improved existing measures (such as those for fiscal policies, workers’ compensation regulations, and asset-forfeiture rules), and developed specific policy prescriptions for each of the 50 states based on our data and a survey of state policy experts. With a consistent time series, we are also able to discover for the first time which states have improved and worsened in regard to freedom recently. (…)

Surprisingly, of all states, they chose to do a “specific focus” report on Florida (State #11!): http://mercatus.org/publication/freedom-florida
This issue of Mercatus on Policy focuses specifically on Florida and how it compares to other states in its fiscal, regulatory, economic, and personal freedom. Overall, Florida does relatively well, especially in personal freedom, although its economic policies leave room for improvement. (…)

The above Freedom study was done by the “MERCATUS CENTER AT GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY” in Arlington, Virginia.
(From a “New World Order Art” & “branding” perspective, I thought that was an interesting black “M” logo with those vertical lines that creates eight internal triangles/pyramids; not to mention the shades of “Blue Lodge” blue used in the Mercatus USA map at the top of this page. And George Mason University’s logo has the three little “swoosh lines” for the “Satanic Trinity” which they sneakily include the third line as part of the “M” so it is barely visible):
An older post at Prison Planet forums has some connections of George Mason University & PTech:
> Cybernetics Agenda > Ptech and the use of transportation (Planes, Trains, and Automobiles) for assassinations and false flags > Ptech used in Desert Storm – Future Combat Systems – Global Dictatorship: http://forum.prisonplanet.com/index.php?topic=91752.0
Was George a Mason? Lol.
Then in the Atlanta Journal Constitution blog article linked from the above Mercatus Freedom Study site, a reader left this comment… & I figured as much…
The Mercatus Center is funded largely by the Koch brothers whose political ideas are well known. Freedom is not a word that defines itself so someone has to define it which is going to determine the results of the study. For instance many people in the antebellum South insisted that they were not free unless they could own slaves. The Koch brothers are largely concerned with their freedom to make money and not to pay much in taxes. (…)

If you’ve never heard of the Koch brothers, now’s a good time for your education:

Always great info at Henry’s site!
So in one evening I went from reading about vehicles all the way around to the Koch brothers! It began with this headline that came through an email list:
7/17/11: “Desperate for revenue, cities and towns squeeze car/RV owners. Taxes skyrocket”:
That lead to the full article here:
7/17/11: “Desperate for revenue, R.I. cities and towns squeeze car owners” – Rhode Island – The Providence Journal: http://www.projo.com/news/content/CAR_TAX_UPDATE_07-17-11_QRP74NU_v62.55138.html
Terrible what the local governments are doing up there (especially since no local governments nor states are REALLY broke! They ALL have gobs of money tied up in investments. Example: http://cafrtreasurehunt.posterous.com/florida-daytona-beach-wealth-is-right-under-y-0 ).
Besides lowering the vehicle tax exemption from $6,000 down to $500, they are using NADA values to gauge the value of your car for tax purposes, no matter its mileage or condition. People’s old cars, trailers, etc. are being taxed to the hilt.
In Reader Comments at the above Rhode Island news site people are saying, “Flee Rhode Island while you still can!” & one person provided the link to the Mercatus Freedom Study which is how I found it. Several people said they had already moved South to Florida for no car tax, no personal income tax, etc. So here we are… with Koch Bros. helping fund the org that tells you the “best” states to escape to & with a “special focus” report on Florida no less.
