Boston Area: “Lazy Library” Sends Police to Collect Overdue Books from 5-Year-Old
Doesn’t the library have telephones? Right, they DO because they called the COPS to go fetch the books from the kid rather than calling the “little crook” themselves or sending an overdue notice in the mail.
The poor kid burst out crying when her Mom opened the door & there stood a policeman wanting the books. The little girl thought her Mom was going to be hauled off to jail.

Even Sgt. Dowd admits he wasn’t real keen on it. “Nobody wanted to, on this end to get involved in it,” says Sgt. Dowd. “But the library contacted us, and the chief delegated, and apparently I was one of the low men on the totem pole.” (…)

Evidently, overdue books are a misdemeanor in Charlton. The Feds probably have librarians brainwashed & scared these days, thinking anyone who doesn’t return books on time is some kind of terrorist.
