Last night, Sunday 3/18/12, the movie Abraham (w/Richard Harris) was on TBN…
I tuned in ten minutes late (while “multi-tasking,” not totally paying attention) where Abram was bemoaning his inability to understand his lack of contentment while living in such a nice area (plenty of water & other necessities) with his wife, family & friends in Haran. What more could a guy want? (Poor Abram! He was suffering from “spiritual emptiness”! – Compare Matthew 5:3).
Next scene Abram is…
taking a big stick & smashing all of the pottery idols/gods of his relatives & father, Terah.
I turn away my attention for a few seconds & the next thing I see on screen is a huge wall of water with Abram being tossed & tumbled to & fro in the water…
Next I saw all the dead animals…
…and an apparently knocked-out-cold Abram flattened on the river bank after the “flash flood”…
God begins calling out to Abram, for the first time ever, which rouses Abram from his unconsciousness & he pops open an eyelid in response to God’s voice…
Lol. Wake up Abram! ;)
In between those quickly passing scenes my mind was still back on the first photo/water scene because I was silently mulling over & over inside myself, “I DON’T RECALL ANY FLASH FLOOD IN SCRIPTURE having to do with God talking to Abraham…???”
Then AT THAT VERY INSTANT this scripture text message popped up on my phone…
Ha! So there you have it! The VOICE of the LORD came rushing in toward Abram UPON THE “flash flood” WATERS! Amazing timing & the most PERFECT scripture for THAT INSTANT! I LOVE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS!
Later I went to YouTube & found the full movie online & re-watched the first part (& grabbed the above still shots). The scene I missed when I had turned my head away was that Abram went down to the river & was walking around when the sky began to be covered with dark black clouds, then it began to thunder & rain so Abram took cover up against the shale/rocks, & then a big flash flood came roaring down the crevice & swooped him away with it.
So not only did the VOICE of the LORD come in UPON the WATERS, but as the rest of that verse says, “the God of glory THUNDERETH!” How cool is that?! :)
It makes me wonder if PSALMS 29:3 is the reason why the movie’s creators chose to ADD the thunderstorm, rain, & flash flood scene to the movie right before God talks to Abram for the first time?? (since there really was no such scene described between Genesis chapters 11 & 12 where God first speaks to Abram).
If so, GOOD JOB, guys! Brilliant Idea! :)
BTW, verse 10 of that Psalm 29 (in full below) even adds: “The LORD sitteth upon THE FLOOD”! :)
It also says the LORD’s VOICE is “POWERFUL” & “FULL of MAJESTY” (vs. 4) which is SO TRUE as He sounds nothing like all the HUMAN “God voices” used in Bible movies, this one included.
The funky thing about that supposedly WEEKLY scripture text message is it follows no set schedule. You never know when it will pop up! It arrives ANY time & day of the week. Fine with me! Let the Holy Spirit decide its perfect content & timing! :) And thank you to the human behind the Bible-SMS.com operation, whoever you are, who surely has not a clue how his/her efforts pay off!
